Low-Income Areas Lean Towards Fast Food
by Bobby Hanes on May.17, 2010, under Nutrition
We have all seen the documentaries about fast food restaurants on low-income areas and how they cause the residents in the area to become obese. The simple fact that the restaurant is there is very bad for the residents.
People with little money don’t really have much of a choice when it comes to eating out options. A cheap fat-filled hamburger looks like a great deal and they can get a few of them but they are full of empty calories and a terrible health risk.
There has been much more than just one documentary done on this situation. There has been quite a bit of involvement. New York’s Area Council got involved and produced new labeling laws to increase awareness on this problem.
Unfortunately according to a survey done only a couple of months ago, there has been no real effect on improvement. The survey showed that the poor people of New York are still in the same situation as before with their diets.
According to companies like McDonalds and KFC the lack of improvement is wrong. They report that men and women have improved on their choice in ordering healthier foods. How can these reports be so different? It just doesn’t make any sense. One has to be right and one wrong.
One thing that could be setting the figures off is the fact that chains like Subway have much healthier low cost foods and the chains with the unhealthy foods like McDonald and KFC are using the healthy reports in their equation. This will definitely throw the numbers off for an accurate report.
What the metropolis is doing is using the reports from wealthier neighborhoods where better food is more readily available and group those reports with those from the poorer neighborhoods that don’t offer the healthier food.
In the end the City’s report doesn’t hold any water at all. It’s worthless. The reality is that poor people are still making bad food choices.

Do Antioxidant Vitamins Cause Cancer?
by Dr. Elaine Ferguson on May.12, 2010, under Nutrition
Here’s a very informative study, that shows how results can lead to unfounded conclusions and mislead you into a false assumption.
While there’s a voluminous number of scientific studies that clearly demonstrate the role vitamin deficiency states play in the development of cancer, this study suggests otherwise. Research studies from time to time have been reported that conflict with the substantive findings of the role vitamins in general and antioxidants in particular play in cancer prevention.
Initial review of the information caused me to pause and wonder about the differences, and it became immediately evident to me.
A study conducted at Cedars-Sinai Heart institute in Los Angeles, California, by its Director, Dr. Eduardo Marban, found while trying to lower the genetic changes that happen when attempting to multiply human heart stem cells.
They found that high doses of antioxidant supplements, such as vitamin C and E, not foods may increase cancer risk.
Because heart stem cells growing in higher concentrations of oxygen caused more abnormalities, the researchers attempted to stop the problem caused by oxidation via adding high doses of antioxidants.
The study published online in the journal Stem Cells found there is a danger zone for cells exposed to anti-oxidants to develop genetic abnormalities that predispose to cancer.
“Taking one multivitamin daily is fine, but a lot of people take way too much because they think if little is good, a lot must be better. If you’re taking 10 or 100 times the amount in a daily multivitamin, you may be predisposing your cells to developing cancer, therefore doing yourself more harm than good,” Dr. Marban said.
The study reports that the stem cells were exposed to 20 per cent oxygen, but cells growing in human tissue are exposed to just 3 to 5 per cent oxygen. This is critical, because the research findings do not reflect what happens in the human body under normal conditions. Also, our cells are exposed to numerous factors, including our emotions, varying levels of circulation (oxygen and nutrients), environmental factors, toxins, etc., that all play a part in our risk of developing cancer.

Healthy Living Enhanced By Natural Products
by Paul J Pearson on May.12, 2010, under Nutrition
Nearly 3,000 years ago, the Chinese used herbs for healing and the practice is still used today. Natural products have always played a big part in healthy living. Through the advancement in technology and medicine, however, the majority of the world looks to more scientific standards of health care and it has pushed more traditional and natural healthcare methods to the side.
While most may not know it, the role of natural products in healthy living has not changed all that much. The body needs a certain amount of nutrients and vitamins to function the way it was meant to be. Without the right amount of each one, the body is going to suffer. If you are not consuming a balanced diet and getting the vitamins and nutrients you need daily, you may be feeling tired and be more vulnerable to a variety of health problems, including colds and viruses.
Clearly the best way to get the right amount of vitamins, as well as nutrients, is to eat a well-balanced diet, but the truth is, people have very busy lives and it is very unlikely that you will be able to do this on a daily basis. Therefore, it is very important to get the natural products so that you can enjoy healthy living. Adding supplements into your daily routine can leave you healthier and feeling your best.
Your body comes in contact with toxins daily that can hurt your health. Many of the natural products available contain anti-oxidants. These will actually help your body to get rid of any that have built up in your body. The end result is going to be more stamina and a general feeling of good health.
Because it is very difficult for most people to partake in a balanced diet everyday, supplements may be in order. However, you do want to be aware of what you are taking and how much. Even Vitamin C, when taken too much, can cause health issues. Therefore, it is always important to make sure you are taking the proper amount and you are only purchasing your vitamins and nutrients from a reputable company.
Natural products have played a role in healthy living for centuries. Unfortunately, many of the benefits are going unseen, as more people have turned to scientific practices for their own healthcare. If you want to see a difference in your health, try using some all natural supplements to provide your body with the fuel it needs to work at its best. Within a short time, you will begin to understand how important the natural products are to you.

Does Liquid Weight Loss Work?
by Marie Stevens on May.06, 2010, under Nutrition
Weight loss products have invaded your local drug store. Thousands of weight loss pills and patches are now being sold, all claiming to help you lose weight without the extra effort. Now, those who are not fond of taking pills can opt to buy a weight loss liquid supplement instead. A weight loss liquid supplement functions like a weight loss pill. The main difference is its form. Most weight loss liquid supplements usually come in different flavors or in tea variants.
It had happened to a friend of mine who was a season adventurer and trekker and he had gone off on a week long hike in an arid and humid area, somewhat like the combination of the Arizona and Sahara desserts. He had brought food and provisions for that week and yet somehow on the third day, he had lost most of his food, save for his liquids. For the next two days, he subsisted on these liquids sleeping during the day to conserve energy and traveling late afternoon and into the evening. Upon reaching his destination, he says he seemed fine; he was hungry but not dehydrated. I asked him why he didn’t call in for help and he told me that it was OK since he had his liquids left. It would have been a different story if he had his food but lost his liquids.
This forced liquid diet weight loss experience he undertook had a great ending though. As he went to the emergency room to be treated, he was asked by the attending emergency room doctor a series of routine questions which he replied to in his best effort, despite looking haggard and smelling not too good. They hit it off. They are now married and are expecting their first child anytime soon. They went on a wilderness honeymoon, by the way.
Always remember to take the advice of your doctor before you begin a liquid diet weight loss program. Your body has need of a large number of essential ingredients and nutrients to function properly. If you find yourself missing out on carbohydrates, proteins and fats as well as grains and cereals, that effect is going to show up on your body. That is the reason why it is extremely essential that you look for a liquid diet, which does not allow you to stop imbibing essential nutrients. You might want to add some raw eggs in your fruit juice and vegetable juice. You might also want to detoxify yourself by drinking vegetable juices with fruit juices mixed in that shake.
By being realistic in your goals and conservative in your estimates in losing weight, the liquid diet weight loss program does not become a burden, but more of normal activities like waking up, sleeping, walking. If you are able to have that mind set, then without any doubt, you will achieve your goals using that liquid diet weight loss technique.

Caffeine Addiction Help-Tips For caffeine Addiction
by Phillip Speer on May.05, 2010, under Nutrition
First of all, we have to remember that there are a lot of food allergies out there. Some individuals are extremely sensitive to nuts and other food products. Other individuals seem that they could consume just about anything.
For me, one of my most “symptom” causing products is caffeine. Some of the side effects I get from drinking caffeine products can be quite alarming. Friends of mine actually have told me I have “caffeine withdrawal”.
But you know what? I truly think I would be lost without that morning caffeine hit. I know I get some brutal symptoms, but I still need that cup of java. Is this caffeine withdrawal many ask? I don’t know for sure, but I know my symptoms increase without it.
Now on the downside of this whole equation, are the side effects of drinking this “straight up” coffee in the morning. Many researchers are leaning toward considering caffeine withdrawal as a true disorder. This can be quite alarming as well.
I really believe that I am not the same old person unless I start the day with my cup of coffee or even tea for that matter. Those that are on the outside looking in state that I am not the same person without that morning cup, so maybe there’s some reality behind it. Unfortunately, I still don’t think I can stop.
If it wasn’t for those pounding caffeine headaches I have, and a bit of the jitters, I probably wouldn’t have any side effects at all. But then again, who wants to deal with them all day. So perhaps there is some truth to this “caffeine withdrawal” disorder they have been speaking about.
So for now, I will attempt to reduce my caffeine intake. I will try the teas and coffee with no caffeine that they recommend, and will even give up my daily chocolate bar. Oh wow, now that is painful. You would think that the medical society would come up with a better way of doing this. I mean is there really such a thing as caffeine withdrawal? Perhaps there really is, as the critics seem to be leaning that way.
